Repair and Refurbishment of 65 Storm Damaged Schools


Endecon Ubuntu (Pty) Ltd was appointed by the Limpopo Department of Education for the Repair & Refurbishment of Storm Damaged Schools in the Mopani & Sekhukhune Districts of Limpopo.


Damage has been caused to various schools throughout the Limpopo Province by storms. The Department of Education has verbally appointed Endecon Ubuntu, subject to
approval of this method statement, to assist with the rectification of the damage to   34 schools in the Mopani District and 24 schools in the Greater Sekhukhune District.
One school in Mopani and two in Sekhukhune are already under construction and will not form part of this appointment.
The situation is regarded as an emergency by the Department and the work must be expedited in the shortest possible time. Endecon Ubuntu liaise closely with EVN Africa Consulting Services (Pty) Ltd,  the Department’s project manager.
The Endecon Ubuntu scope of work comprises the following:
•    Carry out field surveys to determine the extent of the damage.
•    Cost estimates of the remedial work.
•    Make recommendations to the Department on how contractors can be engaged.
•    Supervision of remedial work and contract administration and management.
Repairs are to be carried out where economically viable. Demolition, which is costly and time-consuming, will only be considered if absolutely necessary. Where damage has occurred to a structure, all work necessary (including maintenance items) to make the building functional, will be identified and priced.
